As I casually looked toward one of the trees where lions are known to climb, I had a vague sense that something was there. The branches were dense, and at first it was difficult to see clearly. After repeatedly adjusting my position and scanning through the tangled branches, I suddenly realized what I was looking at.
It was an Amur Falcon.

Finding a falcon perched quietly in such a setting was completely unexpected — and even more exciting because this species was also one of our target birds for the trip.
A Calm and Memorable Observation
The Amur Falcon remained still and relaxed for a long time, showing no sign of disturbance. It quietly rested among the branches, allowing us to observe it at length.
While we waited for the lions to appear, this falcon became a soothing presence — a bird that unexpectedly eased the wait and left a strong impression on us.

Final Thoughts
Sometimes, the most memorable birding moments come not from actively searching, but from simply paying attention while waiting. This unexpected encounter with the Amur Falcon turned a quiet morning vigil into one of the most rewarding moments at Queen Elizabeth National Park.
